Plant strongly suffruticose, 18-50 cm, subglabrous to thinly lanate, glandular. Stems numerous, erect, twiggy, arising from a branching woody base. Leaves green to grey, often with indumentum most dense on margin and midrib oflower surface; those at base of the year's shoot oblanceolate, upper ones narrowing to linear. Capitula subglobose to turbinate-cylindrical, 5-6 mm, 3 to numerous per corymb. Phyllaries subacute, ± to very regularly imbricate, patent to adpressed, yellow or pale straw-coloured. All flowers hermaphrodite. Fl. 6-8. Rocky limestone slopes, clearings in/orest, steppe, 900-2500 m.
