Erect or rarely decumbent herb, 30-45 cm, with adpressed greyish-silvery or yellowish sericeous indumentum; rootstock somewhat woody. Stems simple or commonly branched near base, 1-headed, foliate below, naked at least in upper 1/2. Leaves variable in dissection often on individual plants, basal leaves petiolate widening above into broad cuneate rachis, lamina ± ovate in outline, 2-3x 0,5-3 cm, divided into 3-7 primary segments, 1-1,5 cm, linear-oblanceolate or cuneate, 3-lobed at apex or more deeply divided into 3-5 linear-oblong segments; upper leaves cuneate-spathulate, entire or with a few teeth near apex. Capitula radiate or discoid; involucre 1-1,5 cm broad; phyllaries ovate-lanceolate, sparsely to densely lanate-tomentose. Ligules when present yellow, 10-30, 2-7,5 mm. Disc flowers 2,5-3 mm, not inflated at base at maturity. Paleae oblanceolate, ± suddenly acuminate. Achenes angular, obscurely ribbed, straw-coloured, 1,5-2 mm; corona often unilateral, up to 0,5 mm. Fl. 4-7. On limestone screes and ledges, marly banks and disturbed steppe, 40-1800 m.
