Height 20-60 cm. Leaves with dense short spreading hairs, linear, median cauline 1-2.5 x 0.15-0.3 cm, ± incurved, pinnatisect, segments densely imbricate or somewhat distant, 0-5-1 mm, 3-lobed or 3-partite, lobes oblong, denticulate, upper cauline short, not reaching corymbs. Capitula 2-30, corymbs 2-8 cm broad, peduncles 5-18 mm. Involucre hemispherical to depressed, 2-6 x 2.5-8 mm, rounded at base. Phyllaries lanceolate to ovate, obtuse, ± carinate, with narrow scarious, sometimes brownish margins, with spreading hairs or glabrescent. Ligules 6-8, golden yellow, 1-2.5 mm; disc flowers 40-90. Fl. 6-9. Steppe, rocky and scree slopes, alpine meadows, 1200-3500 m.
