Sterile fronds submerged, 3-8 x 1-3 mm, oblong to narrowly ovate, flat, ± acute and denticulate at apex, often without roots, cohering together by persistent, green 8-15 mm stipes and forming branched chains. Fertile fronds floating, in groups of 2-3, smaller, with short stalks. Fresh or brackish lakes, ponds, springs, s.l. -2300 m.
